Fire Detection
sense one or more of the products or phenomena resulting from fire, such as smoke, heat, infrared and/or ultraviolet light radiation, or gas.
In dwellings, smoke detectors are often stand-alone devices. In non-domestic buildings, fire detection will typically take the form of a fire alarm system, incorporating one or more of the following automatic devices:
- Heat detector
- Smoke detector
- Flame detector
- Fire gas detector
Evacuation Alarm System
The purpose of an evacuation alarm system is to warn the individuals in a particular room/area about a fire or dangerous situation. It tells all persons present to leave the building.
This can be done in several ways:
- Loud alarm: with a tone signal (so-called “slow-whoop”)
- Silent alarm: often used to avoid panic; an alarm is given by a tone signal via pagers, a DECT system or a communication system.
- Spoken word alarm: a pre-programmed voice gives instructions, possibly in multiple languages. These phrases are interspersed with a tone signal. A spoken word alarm is used in complex situations, such as airports, large shopping centres or other large buildings where there are many different rooms and people
